White Visitation - 'Ancestors' - 12" (SUS003)

10.00

Hailing from Mexico City with a sharply-defined approach to techno and house music, Nicolas Guerrero's sinuous tapestries as White Visitation first attracted our attention with his deft use of acoustic samples and patient, innately focused style. WV joins Styles Upon Styles for his debut vinyl release, Ancestors.

"Permanent Swing" provides a dramatic welcome to the EP, marrying echoing synth chords to a host of distant voices and sleepwalking rhythms. Caught in a threateningly comfortable state of sleep-deprived consciousness, WV weaves the momentum of A1 straight into the rumbling kick drums of "Home" to stirring effect. A sensuously strummed bass riff filters in and out of view while percussion and washes of plaintively played synthesizer layer slowly, brick-by-brick, over the track's thundering chassis of sub-kicks.

The close of Ancestors reveals Guerrero's background as a vinyl purist and dancefloor DJ in full form, with the coolly-titled "Blood Revision". Surging forward on a liquid undercurrent of beating drums and charred, sustained organ notes, the song swirls uncannily between sunrise techno and contemplative drowsiness until gleaming hi-hats and rolling snare fills begin to take center stage. A narrative trip from dusk to dawn, "Blood Revision" closes the 12” in a third-eye-opened rush of sonic reflection.
