The first days of a new year are meant for resolution and reflection.
In this coming year, we will endeavor to support our community in New York City to fight against the myriad injustices served this year and countless before it. Too often have victims been punished while murderers evade persecution. Men and women are thrown into the vicious, unending cycle of America's justice system while white collar crime runs rampant, unchecked, gleefully sabotaging the global stage for a cool bonus. Injustice is prevalent in these modern times, and though we wish we could fight every outbreak at once, we've decided to focus on one in particular.
For the month of January, we will donate 25% of all proceeds on physical records released in 2015 to the National Police Accountability Project. We urge you read more about the organization here. Each month in 2016 will see a contribution to another organization with a similar goal: protect our community against those who "protect and serve" with racist and violent predilections.
There will be other methods used to support our community in NY and beyond. We hope you will join us in supporting those efforts over the coming months.
We are proud to have worked with a great number of caring, discerning and inspiring individuals in 2015.
Thank you to Brendon Moeller, Zac Nelson, Kloke, Hieroglyphic Being, Certain Creatures and Space People for entrusting two old friends with such personal and striking compositions. We are also thankful to Santiago Carrasquilla and Wade Jeffree for their guiding vision on the Styles look, from our new logo, our new 12" print and a new website (soon!). And a special shout to Nathaniel Young, one of the guiding forces behind Blankstairs, who joined the SUS team this year and helped make everything you've seen and heard from us in 2015 possible.
Most of all, thank you to each and every one of you, dear readers and listeners. We run Styles to share songs we love and hope others might, too. We're overjoyed to have spent another year meeting people who enjoy this friendship's output ~ you and our crew make each hour and sleepless night worth it. So, thank you.
We are so excited to share new music and debuts from Gut Nose, Quincy Vidal, Zach Cooper, Ohal, Kroba, Vic DiMotsis, Vorhees, and King Garbage in 2016 (alongside a few other surprises, too). Each release strikes different chords from this city's always growing songbook, from classic hop hop to Zorn's neo-classical excursions through busker beat tapes and Electric Lady loose funk. More styles per mile, guaranteed.
Thank you once again, friends. Community is too crucial during moments of turbulence. We are ecstatic to continue building with such wonderful spirits in our midst.
